In the temple of solusek ro, tonight, I had the 4 items ready to hand in for the incandescent mask: 3 runes and the glowing mask. I was playing my enchanter. I hadn't killed many shadowed mn yet, so my rep was neutral.

http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=173 , this spell shouldn't be able to be resisted. It's also odd that he didn't aggro, but the other npc's on his faction line did.
After I came back, and recovered my corpse, he was still neutral but talking to me. I handed him the 4 items without trying benevolence that time, but he ate the items without giving my the quest reward.
