Well a better man might have chosen to avoid confronting a 6 foot tall individual whom they were unsure of their mental situation. It would have been a kinder thing to do than try to be a neighborhood hero. That is just a personal opinion.
At the very least he could have knocked on someones door and gotten a few people to detain him. But since we only have loosely contextual snippets from internet forum trolls. No one can say.
Therefore the law is just. It is why this guy was tried before his peers.
