It's not all about slavery. It's about what white America did AFTER slavery that also matters. They didn't repent for their crimes. They established a white supremacist social order that made black Americans second-class citizens worthy of absolutely none of fruits of the American Dream for over a century.
The fact that you're so unrepentant should remind us all that pride has no place here. I don't know what you're personally clinging to, but it's time to collectively say that this country was established as, persisted as, and continues to be an inherently racist country by its very nature. If you're going to go on saying that racism is gone because we "made nice" a few years ago, I'd love to see you say that to the faces of the people still alive and well who were integrated into all-white schools, or hosed down by fire fighters, or had police dogs attack them for wanting racial equality in this country.
