How about adding a cash payment to all quest turn ins? The bigger the reward, the larger the cash payment required to do the turn in. Nothing else has to change so you can still call it classic, the only difference would be you have to give up some cash to finish the quest. Modifying the frequency and amount of coin drops from mobs would help with inflation, too. There's a lot of mobs that shouldn't drop coin at all like animals and low level undeads like skels and zombies that shouldn't be carrying around money in the first place because it's useless to them.
