I played on the FFA server when the game released, up until the merge of all pvp servers together. Vanguard really had the potential to be the best MMO of all time, and EQ's spiritual successor; but the bugs really made it difficult to play at times. Microsoft (and then SOE) pushed Sigil to release an unfinished project, and I think that's what killed the game before it even began.
The classes were so unique and interesting that I really wanted the game to work. I was bard and blood mage, arguably two of the coolest classes ever. The way bards composed their own songs was magical, as was the interesting implementation of a cloth DPS/healer class. Blood mage had organic symbiotic creatures/items, that were applied and worked as buffs. So cool.
