Bandwidth
Hello,
I played p99 a bit last year but have since changed ISPs to a data capped provider :( I was curious as to how bandwidth intensive p99 is? Thanks |
What is your cap?
I don't know the exact numbers, but they should be relatively low. |
Bump for interest. Also switching to a capped ISP and am interested in typical bandwidth usage.
|
I am on satellite which is also capped and the bandwidth usage is minimal. I can play all day and my cap meter barely moves (although it is self replenishing after a certain point of non usage)

Given EQ's dial-up routes you can't be looking at more than 3k a second if a 28k modem was handling it.
Say 3k a second (to be liberal)... 180k/minute...10.8MB per hour? Based on that, if you left it on 24/7 you'd be using roughly 264MB a day. How much data did they give him I wonder? I know people on 2GB per month limit here...and all that represents is the opportunity to profit, because data costs next to nothing. |
Thanks Swish.
Yeah, I'm in Thailand and my connection is pure garbage. The alternative is an aircard which is capped at 5GB/mth |
I think swish's numbers are even a little high.
These old school mmorpgs use *nothing* in terms of data used. it's pretty wild. to give you an example, a 'modern' mmo that is played on a smart phone (im thinking pocket legends in this case) can be played all day every day for the entire month and not go over a 2gb cap. Trust me when i say EQ uses nil. But definitely someone should track it just to find out for sure :) |
You might see brief spikes into the 7-10k range, but generally it's around 2-3k.
I mean, people used to multibox on dialup with no problem... even on 28.8k modems. Edit: Just ran a small test on mine. P99 was using about 1.15k/s with login, 1 zoning (EC->NRo) and minimal fighting. |
