Hardly think this will happen but i cannot resist
Suggesting this change to help revitalize red99:
- Ditch the xp loss in pvp, replace it with low health no mana when respawning. This will make the server more action oriented (like Rallos was) and more fun. - Put in item loss so that twinks arent allowed to keep their stuff always (so there is risk going out of your way to grief naked noobs), so that it encourages server economy (more people buying and selling), so that it gives an incentive for noobs to group up and try to down twinks. BUT before you rip my head off, patch in a set of starting, mid and high end armor, so that noobs are protected partly from losing all their stuff. Something along the lines of halloween event mobs gear, but with a permanent home on the server. Probably not a whole set, but something they can mix and match with droppable stuff. Let the trolling begin :) |
Yes to removing exp loss. Yes to item loot. No to the gear stuff. Just my opinion.
|
-You already spawn with no mana on pvp deaths
-so you want item loot, but you also want free item sets at multiple levels? Have to disagree with all your ideas |
If there was item loot, ecoli at 50 would look just like the day he was born.

Im getting trolled all the time along the lines of "If you want xp loss out, its because you suck" but really im thinking with the big picture in mind. Im thinking about whats best for the server. People like Dullah just want to keep their advantages, they dont give a fuck about casuals and new fishes who are not as knowledgeable as them about EQ and getting their can kicked around all day until they quit. Theyre not doing the actual griefing, but its just as bad, cuz they dont want to lose their PVE numbers advantages, shit rolls downhill and noobs are getting griefed off the server because of this. As long as they can keep a stranglehold on the raid zones with their overwhelming numbers because nobody will even try to challenge them because of xp loss, everything is fine. It was the same thing in Guk and Holocaust when the server launched. Nobody would go in there to even try because of their numbers, which meant all that was waiting for you in there was eating pvp xp loss. |
The exp loss on pvp death should really go. Lots of people are too afraid to admit it but it is a deterrent to pvp and a source of frustration. Considering how many people claimed to quit because of the slow exp, how can you say that exp loss on pvp death is a good idea?
Moreover, what's the reason for it? To prevent bind rushing? Killing someone already reduces their mana to 0, I don't see how bind rushing is a problem. Can someone seriously report a case of bind rushing ever since mana loss on pvp deaths was implemented? Is the reason to punish people for losing at pvp? There's already a punishment for pvp, it's called dying and being sent to your bind point with no mana and no coin, and losing whatever camp you were at. I'm completely against item loot considering that it favors certain classes (casters) far too much, and it creates a hugely unfair punishment for losing to pvp (which will therefore discourage pvp). If someone thinks they're going to lose their tranix crown, donal's breastplate, manastone, etc. when they die to pvp, they're probably going to avoid pvping. Also, eq pvp can sometimes be unfair, and people might die because of lag, exploits, or bugs. What if you lava bolt someone through a wall and kill them, and get a prized item because of it? What if there's no evidence to report you? Is that even remotely fair? What if you kill someone in pvp because of lag, or because of that bug where they don't even see you in zone? You think people are going to say nice things about this server when they lose an item they camped for 12 hours because of a stupid bug? Also, the free items idea is plainly dumb. This is a server that's supposed to be legitimate and at least resemble classic. That would kill the classic feeling for me and many others. |

Oh wait nevermind, that wasnt my idea, at all. Like i mentioned with the halloween gear... i was thinking more of actual drops that people have to fight for, with various rarity, etc... As for people losing gear, i think the eve online saying can apply here: "Dont fly what you cant afford to lose". AKA, i dont fly my best ship with the best mods on it when i fly alone and i know theres a good chance i might die. I fly that ship when im with 10 buddies also decked out in great gear. |

However I do not play full time on Red, I only dabble. That being said I used to play on Rallos Zek, from around May '99 to March '00 and I would much rather lose some exp and coin than some item. There is an exp bonus on Red99 anyway. Doesn't that help "cushion the blow" of losing it in pvp? (easier to recover it) also, since the population is so low isn't getting an item from a drop that much harder? I played on RZ and I hated losing items. I didn't care about looting items from others. I'd rather not see Red99 go that way |
Item loot servers always seemed to end up in Wizard and Druid gangbangs, first 2 ideas are debatable, free stuffs is bad.

Im suggesting it because the devs dont want a "FPS style" server. I think the penalty of starting over with low health no mana is enough, but hey. I would prefer no xp loss and item loss, but i think no xp loss and no item loss would be better than what we have now, for the servers health. Not because i cant handle it, but because all the new fishes who will try to log on and pvp will get obliterated by twinks, which is normal, but when they start lookin at that xp loss, the long grind, most of em will quit. Ive said this a hundred times, but seriously devs are asking people new to the game to learn the game, without gear, and go against experienced players who are geared out, crewed out, people who are out to grief em with pvp xp loss. Its no surprise they quit. Even for casuals who werent that new and didnt have to die alot to learn what works and what doesnt, it was hard to start out on the server, way more now. |
