I am so confused
Any idea why I cannot alter my EQHost.txt file as requested?
|
We can only guess. If you are on Windows Vista/7, you have to run Notepad.exe as Administrator, and then open the file. But that's just a guess.
|
On Vista I had to completely change permissions for the entire Sony folder that's in Program Files. Trying to open the eqhost.txt file as admin still wouldn't let me change it.

I am running Vista.
I think that I am the administrator. I get the message: "Make sure that the path and file name are correct" and it won't change to Host=eqemulator.net:5998 as required. |
Just to be sure, did you right click on the file, go to properties, and uncheck Read Only? Though I don't remember having to do that myself.
Try creating a new text file using Notepad, pasting in the appropriate info, and just saving over the old one. |

Also, fuck vista, amirite? |
It seems that I had to be logged in as Administrator and have permission to change the file. Geez, it could have told me that instead of some cryptic message about the path and file name.

Move the whole folder to your desktop and make the changes there, this worked for a friend of mine and a few others :)

Vista/Windows 7:
Start-> Programs -> Accessories -> Right click on notepad and select run as administrator. If the eqhost.txt is in a protected location opening notepad w/o elevated permissions won't work! |
