Ranger *Newb* Weapon (30pp)
 

If you were starting out and got 30pp from a very generous gnome magician.

What would you spend it on to be an effective leveling up weapon.

I don't mind saving it and using my starting weapon. But I figure I mind as well get a weapon to get me going on farming skeleton chips / high quality pelts.

For 30 plat don't expect to get anything fancy. Maybe someone will give you something decent.
I would suspect you can get an Ebony Bladed Sword (the one from Lower Guk) for around 50 plat but I bought one awhile ago for 35.
Aside from that you're looking at Fine Steel Longsword (6 for 28) or a vendor sold sword that is about the same as fine steel (6 for 29)
Keep saving up and you'll get something better

Ebony Bladed Sword is good for starting out. Since it is Ranger only, if you find one for sale I'm sure you can negotiate.

The issue with weapons like the ones you could afford are that a lot of people don't bother trying to auction them, they'll just vendor stuff that's worth 5-10pp instead of trying to hold onto it to get 40-50 in EC, if they loot the thing in the first place.

You might be better off saving your money towards some other gear and trying to get a weapon handout in EC or from someone who is killing guards/spectres/etc.

You might try to snag a Shiny Brass Halberd (16/48, 2Hand Slashing), but like other ppl said not many folks that loot the SBH take it to East Commons to sell.
