How the hell does AC work

how does this work, a Electrum BS ear says 2 ac it gives me 4, mask of deception says it's 4 ac it gives me 7, crown of king tranix... 13 ac, gives me 12.

None of these item has an agility component. why aren't they giving the ammount of ac they show? heh

Your gear AC is just one component of your calculated/displayed AC.

Level >>>>>>>>>>>>> AC (at least here)

I think people are missing the question here - if you equip an item that has 10ac, your calculated AC will go up more than 10. It's some kind of formula, I believe involving level, ac from gear, and agi...and possibly defense?

Get an item with AC on it and put it on a level 1 and see how much his AC goes up, then put it on a level 50+ and you'll see it goes up even more.

Last note is that your ac from gear is thought to be better than your AC from higher agility/defense. So adding an idol of the thorned would be better mitigation-wise than some items adding up to +30agi.

there's a level based multiplier in there somewhere

AC values on gear should be treated as relative to other pieces of gear

Okay, so I get the gist of AC, but can somebody explain magnets now?
