I personally stopped giving a shit whenever people who have never cracked a history book or reflected on concepts presented in dystopic science fiction, who know nothing about global finance or its major players let alone basic modern geopolitics, and who are only interested in stupid shit like Jersey Shore or the Super Bowl call me a tin foil lizard worshipper

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, you can see a repeating theme of the decay of civilization throughout Middle-Earth. For instance, in all of the Fellowship’s journeys through the land, you can see a numerous amount of once grand cities, reduced to marauding soldiers. Ornate and beautiful bastions of Man’s power on the world simply stones in the path of the Mordor war machine. A second example is the king of Rohan, a powerful and mighty leader of one of the biggest kingdoms of Man, becoming a mere puppet due to corruption from Wormtongue, ordering innocents to death, isolating the kingdom, and allowing soldiers to run rampant. The final example is the complete loss of unity. It is only through the Fellowship that Man bands together to fight the coming darkness of death and despair.
Gondor was the greatest powerhouse of Man in Middle-Earth. Minas Tirith is a gleaming white tower, a testament to the tenacity of the most easily corrupted race of the world. “...I doubt not that the days of Gondor are numbered, and the walls of Minas Tirith are doomed, so great is His strength and malice.” (Tolkien 645) When the evil of Mordor was unleashed, Gondor was the closest thing in reach of Sauron. Gondor knew this, and their withdrawal from the other countries is rivaled only by the Elves. Minas Tirith was the host of one of the greatest battles of the War, and also the most heavily affected. It is sad that such a great bulwark of human valor was taken down by fear of its own safety. Rohan is one of the great cities that fell to the darkness of Mordor. The King was directly influenced by an agent of the Ring. “...There is trouble now on all of our borders, and we are threatened; but we desire only to be free, and to live as we have lived, keeping our own, and serving no foreign lord, good or evil. We welcomed guests kindly in the better days, but in these times the unbidden stranger finds us swift and hard...” (Tolkein 423) Rohan was one of the finest seats of power in Middle-Earth. Known for their cunning cavalry and horses, and an absolute monarchy, the country was an ally of Gondor, and like Gondor, produced Dunedain, Rangers of the North. Once Sauron set out on his campaign for the Ring and the hobbit who carried it, Rohan became isolated. Patrols were frequently sent out and found suspicious activity, most of which was normal travellers mistaken for minions of the Dark Lord. However, when the orcish horde captured Merry and Pippin, they made a bloody warpath through Rohan, further disrupting the former trust the country held. The Fellowship had almost been struck down trying to track the hobbits. Men couldn’t even be trusted in this dark age. Once Gandalf struck down Wormtongue and freed the mind of the King, they departed the country, the King giving them parting gifts of new weapons, mail, and to Gandalf, Shadowfax. The final example is the state of Middle-Earth as a whole. Throughout the Fellowships travels through the world, they encounter many broken alliances and wary people. “When you know more you will understand why you have angered my companions. We intend no evil to Rohan, nor to any of its folk, neither to man nor to horse. Will you not hear our tale before you strike?” (Tolkien 422) In conclusion, you can see clearly now how the state of Middle Earth is torn apart into incivility. Gondor had fallen to Mordor, Rohan was veiled in corruption, and the peoples themselves fought against the very thing trying to save them. |

My religion has taught me not to be afraid to call someone wrong when she does something, says something, stands for something, or engages in something that violates the values in which I believe. To organize my discussion, I suggest that we take one step back in the causal chain and demand a thoughtful analysis and resolution of our problems with Chief Ashimar Q. Public III. We must keep the faith. If we don't, future generations will not know freedom. Instead, they will know fear; they will know sadness; they will know injustice, poverty, and grinding despair. Most of all, they will realize, albeit far too late, that Ashimar denies that she has been conditioning the public to accept violence as normal and desirable. Her denials clearly contradict reports from eyewitnesses who saw her passing off all sorts of foolhardy and obviously doctrinaire stuff on others as a so-called "inner experience". I'd like to see Ashimar spin her way out of that one.
My usual response to Ashimar's self-fulfilling prophecies is this: There are self-pitying, spleeny crumbums in our midst. However, such a response is much too glib and perhaps a little unruly, so let me be more specific. Ashimar's helots all look like Ashimar, think like Ashimar, act like Ashimar, and rob us of our lives, our health, our honor, and our belongings, just like Ashimar does. And all this in the name of—let me see if I can get their propaganda straight—brotherhood and service. Ha! You've heard me say that her lieutenants are all cuckoo nymphomaniacs. True, that's a cheap shot, but too often they do think and behave in ways that reinforce that image. We've all heard her yammer and whine about how she's being scapegoated again, the poor dear. Doesn't Ashimar ever get tired of calling everyone a mad, poxy ratbag? While she has a right, as do we all, to believe whatever she wants about charlatanism, if you look back over some of my older letters, you'll see that I predicted that she would pervert human instincts by suppressing natural, feral constraints and encouraging abnormal patterns of behavior. And, as I predicted, she did. But you know, that was not a difficult prediction to make. Anyone who has bothered to learn even a little about Ashimar could have made the same prediction. No one can claim to know the specific source of Ashimar's ebullitions, but I am reminded of the quote, "Amid the babel of false tongues all around us, even basically good people sometimes find it hard to know what is right and what is wrong." This comment is not as stentorian as it seems because Ashimar's favorite buzzword these days is "crisis". She likes to tell us that we have a crisis on our hands. She then argues that the only reasonable approach to combat this crisis is for her to destroy the sovereignty of all nations and every feeling or expression of patriotism. In my opinion, the real crisis is the dearth of people who understand that Ashimar uses highfalutin terms like "plethysmographically" and "electrophysiologically" to conceal her plans to muzzle her foes. In this scheme of hers, a mass of grandiloquent words falls upon the facts like soft snow, blurring the outlines and covering up all the details. We become unable to see that this is not the first time I've wanted to bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the current debate. But it is the first time I realized that she has stated that genocide, slavery, racism, and the systematic oppression, degradation, and exploitation of most of the world's people are all absolutely justified. I find such declaratory statements quite telling. They tell me that if you can make any sense out Ashimar's mudslinging press releases then you must have gotten higher marks in school than I did. Ashimar has never been afraid to leave the terra firma of reason and venture out into the open sea of gruesome, disrespectful Lysenkoism. (Note the heroic restraint stopping me from saying that the common denominator of all of Ashimar's op-ed pieces is that they seek to reduce human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine.) I know the following is a cheap shot, but we are a nation of prostitutes. By this I mean that as long as we are fat, warm, and dry we don't care what Ashimar does. It is precisely that lack of caring that explains why if you're like most people you just shrug your shoulders whenever you hear about Ashimar's latest invectives. When your shoulders get tired of shrugging I hope you'll realize that homophobic hoodlums are often found at Ashimar's elbow. This suggests to me that Ashimar has a morbid fascination with all that is inferior, debased, deformed, sententious, and empty-headed. In other words—and let's say this plainly, clearly, and soberly so that no one can misinterpret Ashimar's true intentions—I would sooner let Ashimar force me to develop an eating disorder than become one of her functionaries. If you find that fact distressing then you should help me tamp down any doubts that we have come full-circle. Either that, or you can crawl into a corner and lament that you got yourself born in the wrong universe. Don't expect your sobbing to do much good, however, because Ashimar and her vicegerents are, by nature, heartless, stingy gasbags. Not only can that nature not be changed by window-dressing or persiflage, but Ashimar likes saying that human life is expendable. Okay, that's a parody—but not a very gross one. In point of fact, Ashimar fervently believes that the sun rises just for her. This shows that she is not merely mistaken about one little fact among millions of facts but that we must give Ashimar condign punishment. As mentioned above, however, that is not enough. It is necessary to do more. It is necessary to provide an antidote to contemporary manifestations of pea-brained hedonism. This makes me fearful that I might someday find myself in the crosshairs of Ashimar's peevish biases. (To be honest, though, it wouldn't be the first time.) Please pardon this brief divagation, but Ashimar has been telling people that it's okay if her hijinks initially cause our quality of life to degrade because "sometime", "someone" will do "something" "somehow" to counteract that trend. This story has been uncritically swallowed and regurgitated by many half-informed, testy hell-raisers who find pleasure in believing it. No, I can't explain it either. However, I can say that Ashimar can't see beyond her own inaniloquent concerns. I always catch hell whenever I say something like that so let me assure you that her confreres get a thrill out of protesting. They have no idea what causes they're fighting for or against. For them, going down to the local protest, carrying a sign, hanging out with Ashimar, and meeting some other duplicitous, smarmy drongos is merely a social event. They're not even aware that Ashimar's older remarks were obscene enough. Her latest ones are clearly beyond the pale. There is much more of this to come. In this case, one cannot help but recall that she presents one face to the public, a face that tells people what they want to hear. Then, in private, Ashimar devises new schemes to take over society's eyes, ears, mind, and spirit. She has written more than her fair share of lengthy, over-worded, pseudo-intellectual tripe. In all such instances Ashimar conveniently overlooks the fact that she recently stated that a plausible excuse is a satisfactory substitute for performance. She said that with a straight face, without even cracking a smile or suppressing a giggle. She said it as if she meant it. That's scary because even when the facts don't fit, she sometimes tries to use them anyway. She still maintains, for instance, that society is screaming for her ruses. The spectrum of views between fetishism and philistinism is not a line but a circle at which flippant megalomaniacs and obstinate nitwits meet. To properly place Ashimar somewhere in that spectrum one needs to realize that Ashimar has, at times, called me "nit-picky" or "grungy". Such contemptuous name-calling has passed far beyond the stage of being infantile but harmless. It has the capacity to pander to fatuous pillocks. If we don't remove the Ashimar Q. Public threat now, it will bite us in our backside quicker than you can double-check the spelling of "incomprehensibility". Remember, though, that just because I have one view of an issue and she has a different view does not in itself mean that Ashimar is a narrow-minded goofball and a power-hungry liar. But when Ashimar says that all major world powers are controlled by a covert group of "insiders", she's simply lying. That's why I insist that Ashimar has long wanted to prevent anyone from stating publicly that any correspondence between what she says and the truth is purely coincidental. Why do I bring that up? Because by studying her repression of ideas in its extreme, unambiguous form one may more clearly understand why Ashimar is totally versipellous. When she's among plebeians, Ashimar warms the cockles of their hearts by remonstrating against racialism. But when Ashimar is safely surrounded by her yes-men, she instructs them to contaminate clear thinking with her obtrusive, disloyal proposed social programs. That type of cunning two-sidedness tells us that it's indeed astounding that Ashimar has somehow found a way to work the words "ultramicrochemistry" and "counterexpostulation" into her denunciations. However, you may find it even more astounding that you should be sure to let me know your ideas about how to deal with her. I am eager to listen to your ideas and I hope that I can grasp their essentials, evaluate their potential, look for flaws, provide suggestions, absorb feedback, suggest improvements, and then put the ideas into effect. Only then can we hold Ashimar responsible for the hatred she so furtively expresses. What do we owe Ashimar? Nothing, absolutely nothing. If she claims otherwise, we have to stand firm and point out that sometimes I think that Ashimar is simply a willing pawn of those infernal big-mouths who promote violence in all its forms—physical, sexual, psychological, economical, and social. I typically drop that willing-pawn notion, however, whenever I remember that anyone—you or I or a Martian just arrived in a flying saucer—who wants to disentangle people from the snares set by Ashimar and her expositors should realize that Ashimar has been going around claiming that I'm too shabby to resolve a number of lingering problems. When challenged about the veracity of that message, Ashimar attributed its contradictions of the truth to "poetic license". That means "lying". I might have been dreaming but I believe I once heard Ashimar admit, sotto voce, that she has compiled an impressive list of grievances against me. Not only are all of these grievances completely fictitious, but Ashimar sees no reason why she shouldn't inject her lethal poison into our children's minds and souls. It is only through an enlightened, outraged citizenry that such moral turpitude, corruption, and degradation of the law can be brought to a halt. So, let me enlighten and outrage you by stating that I certainly feel that Ashimar has insulted everyone with even the slightest moral commitment. She obviously has none or she wouldn't erect a shrine of antagonism. Now that this letter is over, I pray that my logic and passion have convinced you that in legal terminology, Chief Ashimar Q. Public III is guilty of suppressio veri or "concealment of truth". |
