DoT kiting nerfed?
Hello,
I have only been playing on the server for a few weeks now. I have a low leveled shaman that just received my first 2 dots in the game. The spells do not seem to be doing the full tick damage when the mob is in motion, but will do the full tick damage when the mob is stationary. For example: Shaman - Level 5 spell - Sicken When I cast this spell it decreases HPs by 8. The wiki states the spell will remove 2HPs from the mob per tick. If the mob is moving or running towards me, it will only seem to take off 1 hp. Shaman - Level 9 Spell - Tainted Breath This spell will decrease 10 HPs from the target once applied. Then every tick it will do 8 HPs damage per tick. However, if I am kiting something around, it will only do 5. What is happening? Is this normal? It has been so long since I played the live game, but I don't remember this being the case. Thank you for any insight you may have. |

Yes it is normal, this got nerfed about five or six months ago, sadly it is "working as intended" |

This was classic for the timeline. I don't know why people don't remember this.
Root/Rot for the best effect. |
Thank you for the responses. I did not realize they did this in live. I am sure this is mostly due to the fact that I played a mage my EQ career.
Thanks. |
If the mob in question is a challenge for you (high enough to resist a few spells) then you are better off kiting even with the reduced damage. It is faster but takes more mana to root-rot and if the mob is not staying rooted you can get in serious trouble real quick - since you can't have it snared while rooting, you need to be prepared to run and get distance at any moment.

I thought I saw something recently where Rogean reverted this change.

Which change? The root-snare, or the moving-DoT? Or both?
