What expansion were rangers able to solo with bows in?

Hrummm you can now... Unless you want extras such as Endless Quiver and such. In that case, you would be looking at Luclin. Some phenomenal bows Kunark up.

Bow/dot kited an even con sand giant at 35 until it was half dead then meleed it down, it is possible but its much more efficient soloing several lightblues.

Remember, bows hit very hard at lower lvls. (lvl 1 can hit for 10s!)
Bow + arrows = PLage to lvl 1-10 as a ranger!

Then it starts to get really slow...

if you hunt animals your level and can get a decent weapon/s, you can solo quite easily! my ranger on RZ had a woodsman's staff and was basically naked, but i solo'd the raptors outside of skyshrine all day long in my 30s. snare+fear+beat~ of course velious isn't out yet, but kunark will have plenty of animals to kill!

When do rangers get panic animal?

I believe 15 if memory serves correct. Best place to go is Everfrost. Good wide open area where you can fear mammoths. Some of the tusks sell for very good coin.

Keep in mind there is a difference from dps, and soloing, completely two different questions.

I can put a Runed Oak Bow on any ranger with max Archery, he can solo anything he wants, but it'll take quite awhile assuming your near a arrow vendor.

Pick any pair of 1 hander's or even high damage 2 handers, and they will always out dps any bow up to Velious/Kunark.

Your weapons will never be better then a bow dps wise if you compare any top end to another, only benefit I could see is maybe bow for ranged attacks to avoid spells/aoes?

Well a bow does allow you to avoid AoE's of course. However, during Live(Kunark); Our one and only ranger "was" the exp group every time and he used nothing but a bow. Though he had the best damn gear available alllll the time. Outside of T2 gear, I couldnt tell you what Bow he had unfortunately. Memories not THAT good.
