want to make sure it is working properly before i decide to specialize in something temporarily.

I've never done this quest but considering I've never heard any reports of it being broken, and it's been available for a long time, you should be good to go. It's era appropriate.

I've never done it myself, but I'm almost positive the quest to reset your specializations are in game. Good luck!
