Active Duty People: DADT?

How is the repeal on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" affecting life in active duty? Was there a mass coming out? Are people sucking each other off the bathroom? Are barracks very uncomfortable now?

..or are you guys already over it?

Much ado about nothing?

There ARE those people out there that are still homophobic or wanna go gay bashing.
and being in a place where you are watching someones back you may hate just because of their sexual orientation is a scary thing.
What if you are gay, have come out......95% of the military doesn't care lol. But that 5% that are gunna have a problem with it may be watching your back in a combat situation......
Wouldn't be good for military press is a gay marine or a gay soldier was killed because his fellow soldier didn't back him up because he was gay

Hasbinbad 09-28-2011 06:52 PM

Yeah, I understand the reasoning behind it, I'm just wondering how things are panning out now that it's been repealed..

Eternal-Elf 09-28-2011 06:57 PM

oh are you asking if the gays can conceal themselves BACK in the closet?

Nah that door is already open lol

Hasbinbad 09-28-2011 07:22 PM

No, im asking if its causing all the problems homophobic people predicted..

Eternal-Elf 09-28-2011 07:27 PM

oh lol
no

Lazortag 09-28-2011 07:36 PM

Hasbinbad is worried that if gays are allowed to come out of the closet in the military, it'll lead to even bigger problems, like gay marriage.

This is 100% true.

You ask the question as if it were the military members who were the ones with the problem with gays. They were not. I sure didn't give a shit for my entire 22 years in the military. The vast majority were over it long ago and actually knew and followed the entire law which was DADTDP (Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue). But of course the folks who continue to conflate the actions of politicians with the wishes of the military members (e.g. the OP), conveniently always omitted the DP because it didn't fit with their personal warped vision of the military. Sure there were a bunch of shit heel Marines and Soldiers who said the had a problem with it in surveys, and there will always be shit heels who treat gays, minorities, women, etc. like shit because they are narrow minded assholes. Fortunately for the vast majority there will always be rules that allow the military the latitude to drop those assholes off at the Greyhound with a ticket home when their inability to tolerate negatively affects good order and discipline. I suggest you pose the question to the intolerant asshole politicians who stuck the military with a shitty rule to enforce.

Raghnar is kind of right, the military was more aggressively against DADT than congress or even Obama was. But I don't think Hasbinbad necessarily singled out people in the military as being homophobic, he just said:

He didn't say "homophobic soldiers", he was probably referring to homophobic people on this forum (of which there are a few) or just generally.

Okay, I'm done defending hasbinbad, now I can go back to trolling him about his obsession with irony/lustrous russet/etc.
