No. Carbon monoxide hurts- headache, +CO2 that's also in the exhaust triggers hypercapnic alarm response and physically irritates mucous membranes. You will die in a panic with the nice added sensation of your squishiest most sensitive bits being burned alive..... because humans have lots of little evolutionary tools that interact with carbon dioxide. The Japanese and Taiwanese that simmer charcoal briquettes in their sealed apartments to maximize CO and minimize CO2 execute it far better, but it's still vastly inferior to inert gas.
If one were to do gas, nitrogen or helium are the way to go. One minute you are there, you are momentarily light-headed, and then you're unconscious and quickly dead. Inert gas displaces all the oxygen from your lungs, which was virtually unheard of during our evolution. Human body has no idea what's going on and just goes unconscious and dies, painlessly.
