The right to discriminate

Uber announces new safety feature

Uber announced a "Women's Preferences" on Wednesday that would allow women riders and drivers in the U.S. to only be connected with other women for their trips through the ride-sharing service.
The content of my character doesn't feel very seen when I'm discriminated against based on my immutable characteristics.

Your immutable characteristics don't involve you having a 1 in 3 to 1 in 4 (depending on whose numbers you use) chance of being raped or sexually assaulted in your lifetime. That makes it easy to dismiss the concerns of those who do ... but that doesn't make those concerns invalid.

this is one of those things i assumed was already a feature.

also, i want the option to only pick a male driver. I nearly had a panic attack from a distracted female lyft driver once.

i'd pay extra for an ride app with female drivers in manual cars with gutted interiors and 5 point harness recaro seats or something though... like a lot extra.

Scroll down. Keep scrolling: it goes for awhile (and those are just the cases that became serious lawsuits ... from the last year).

So you feel you'll be safer with a male driver because ... males don't get distracted?

No need to scroll. I already understand that you're worried I might rape a white woman.

Yes.

without knowing any other information other than gender.

we could construct a whole flow chart(?) if you want, like a European female ranks higher because i'm pretty sure you have to actually take your test in a manual car in a lot of countries over there and the whole drivers education in general is better.

i live in Texas, it's like 10 written questions and a 5 minute drive around the block and you get your license, it's fucking terrible.

i am required to use uber when i am onsite for work stuff, i don't like it. especially at airports. makes me feel dirty.
