Dying Fine Plate Armor

Yes I am aware that this has been brought up in the past through several posts, the lengthiest being this thread.

I have nothing against the research of those fine individuals. I'm not saying their work was bad or anything... let's just say that our methods are different. And these "different" research methods have led me to believe that dying fine plate armor was released in Everquest's first major trade skill patch dated September 19, 2000 (link 1, link 2 I have more if you need them). Better yet, here are some screenshots so you dont have to sift through those links:

EQtraders was a wonderful website run by a great moderator. When she set up her site she helped out the Everquest community by provided countless trade skill updates. The way she did this was through e-mails and updates provided by the EQ players and also confirming by merchant-diving and testing combines.

The adventurous folks of the Kunark-era banded together to help her out with a series of updates following the aforementioned patch. Seen here:

note the date at the top being short after the patch
(in case you're curious about the "various dyes look like" link. The link works but the images are broken.)

After a few months her site was updated to include the new recipes:

again, notice the dates
(yes I am aware that this is a duplicate image post from another thread)

Also other little tidbits of evidence would pop up on other sites like Zam:

note the date

And Everlore (a guide was even created several months after this patch on dying fine plate armor which can be seen here)

I have yet to find actual documentation of the specific dyes and recipes being implemented by the developers. I can only offer one viable explanation and that is I believe the developers created the world of everquest to be explored - thoroughly. If they put the exact recipes and formulas in their vague patch notes, what fun would that be for the adventurous-type?

I hope this evidence is suitable and that you carefully reconsider putting the correct ingredients on the correct merchants.

Great research but with one of the drops being dropped in the Hole I would suspect that unless the Hole is released you are looking at an incomplete dye set anyway. Perhaps that when the Hole is released the dyes will also become available. As far as "an empty vial" not being available yet (I'm not sure if it is or isn't) I think that's the least of your worries.

unlikely. I currently have a stack of russets, charcoal, and 7 or so iron oxide in my possession from farming in Najena. Just preparing for the dyes to be released.

I'm sure when the Hole was added the loot table for the golems/elementals contained those ingredients but it is definitely not the only source

I'm at a loss here. I've given you people what you ask for. Research, screenshots, links. And now it's a wall of wtf?

JenJen 08-02-2011 03:06 PM

probably because armor dyes were not in game during classic? :( i specifically remember when it was patched in and it was not kunark.

johnny ringo 08-02-2011 03:13 PM

yes they were. you're thinking of when they made it so you could dye just about anything. it's all in his post.

JenJen 08-02-2011 03:55 PM

hrmm.. you may have me there and probably stand corrected :)

This is correct. The first in-game armor dyes came out sometime after Kunark release but before Velious.
Posted about this a long long time ago...

But considering that VP and the Hole are not released yet I would say that the release of classic armor dyes is not yet late.
