Game crashes but only for some chars
 

My game recently started crashing every time I camp to char select, but only for some of my characters. It appears it happens for any character that I logged on in the past week or so.

However, if I log on a character I haven't used in a while, then camp, then log him in again, and camp him (as many times as I like), it won't crash. So it's like there was a specific week in time in the recent past that corrupted my characters, perhaps a period in between PC restarts

I tried deleting my charUI and charINI for my main character, but the bug persisted even after doing that

Now here's where it gets weird. If I then also delete defaults.ui, now all the sudden my main char doesn't crash. So I tried changing defaults.ui to that of a char that doesn't crash. But even that causes my main character to crash. HOWEVER, I can log in a new character with that default UI and it won't crash

What is it with my main character that persists even after his UI and charINI are deleted that would still cause him to crash, while other characters don't crash?

I even tried deleting my main's charINI, and changing his UI to that of a character that doesn't crash, but my main still crashed even with that theoretically good UI

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Possibly relevant info: /camp desktop and even /q still cause me to get the error message on the specific characters that are experiencing the crashing

It's not account related because my war and enchanter are on the same account. War crashes every time, enchanter never crashes

At the risk of suggesting something dumb I assume you've already updated the settings on your eqgame.exe?

I've been using this computer for years, and I've had compatibility mode turned on for years. No idea how it got turned off at any point

I'm also still absolutely miffed about how this bugged out for some characters and not others

probably a Windows update inadvertently disabled it
