Bard Combat Skill: Taunt (100)

According to multiple sources, bards had a taunt skill of 100 in classic and Kunark beta, if not later.

Skill Cap Current and Kurank Beta

These skill caps were generated from another user who looked at the memory area for skill caps. Then he went to the test server and did the same thing. Here are his results. Of course as always the numbers for Kurank are beta and subject to change.

i still wish we had our initial Taunt skill.
Yes, on first EQ pre kunark we had a taunt ability. I know this for sure because i have a lv 8 bard on a server i never play. He is 4 years old and he has a taunt buton. no idea why they took it out

A taunt button would be nice to keep Mobs of the casters while our mez song is developing.

Nice find! I'm no meta junkie, but what would a 60 bard with 100 skill be able to taunt successfully? Would it be same level mobs as a warrior but lower probability?

Jimjam 07-10-2023 10:08 AM

Devils advocate taunt was often used to mean ‘get aggro’.

A character can have buttons they don’t have skill for through bugs.

Those points aside I’m interested in the idea bards temporarily had taunt. It doesn’t seem too outlandish.

Seems like 100 is right around the threshold where the skill would be reliable enough, though not to the extent that would warrant committing it to hotbar 1 unless specifically standing as the group's tank.

Yeah, no smoking gun as of yet. So far, zero screenshots of bards with taunt hotkeyed, although back then they were doing everything to try and lose aggro more often than not. So if bards did have a taunt skill, them using it in classic wouldn't have been the norm.
