Bulletin board functionality at Lions Mane Inn and others
 

Back in the day the bulletin boards you see on some taverns walls were interactive. They don't seem to be anymore. I'm trying to remember how exactly they functioned. Can anyone give me any information on their past/present/future? Thanks.

Essentially you could leave short messages that other players could then read. I don't remember people actually using them seriously though. In fact, I don't think most even knew they were there.

However, illustrious poster (and former project contributor) Secrets recorded a video of how they worked, apparently using TakP (which I guess has them working):

Heh, except in classic (when these things actually worked) no one had a name like "Danceswithpoontang".

I rolled a toon the other day on takp and tried the board at Fish's pub out back in Qeynos. Board didn't seem to work there.

Is there a special patch to enable it?

Linking the in-game forum to the web forum was a missed opportunity. As it was the in-game boards were almost useless. They worked at least through the Velious era but most of the posts by then were little more than variants of "Hello?" and "Is anyone reading this?" I believe the necesaary functionality--the ability to click the boards--was removed from later clients, like the one we use here on P1999. The textures for the message boards are still present and can be seen in-game on P99 today, but cannot be interacted with.
