ISP Options

Anyone have experience with non terrestrial internet options?

We're moving to the woods and the only thing that is available is a 40MB DSL line. Not ideal but I'll take it if I have to. Was hoping to maybe supplement with a hotspot or something similar. Anyone have experience setting this up?

I think I'll sign up for Starlink and maybe that will save us down the road.

I called the cable company once to have a quote to run a cable for fiber to my house.

With a straight face (voice) The woman called and said, it would cost $27,000 lol!

I was like this is for home internet.

She was like, "yes"

Yeah go with starlink.

That 40mb dsl sounds like your best bet. I think after that call I was using DSL

40mb DSL is really fast and would more than cover all your project 1999 needs. I can get by with as little as 8mb DSL

Yeah I think I'll go with DSL initially, sign up for Starlink and then explore other options until Starlink.

when you get it setup, show us how fast the DSL really is, im guessing 7mbs lol

false advertising is so rampant in this country during our adult generation.

Starlink got partially nuked by a solar flare. I really wanted it to work tho.

Try to farm more. Internet less. Hardcoppies r nice :)

Agreed it will be interesting to see the actual speed. DSL will be a luxury if you're in a rural place, hard to complain. Beats satellite, still allows you to play games, just not while the entire family is streaming netflix or something.

After thinking about this a bit more I actually am welcoming the limited internet speed. More in line with what we're actually after with this move. Less internet = better life.

Once they get all the satellites launched that they plan to, losing a dozen in a solar flare won't even be a blip. But I think I read they are also planning on orbiting them farther out now

Being able to play p99 in a bunker in antarctica sounds awesome though, this is how I'm planning for the future.
