Green Druid - Which roots to use?

I think it's probably fairly obvious that you should use the highest level root up to 24. However, the 39 level root "Enveloping Roots" has a shorter cast time (1.75) and a purported max length of 1 minute, which besides the cast time is much worse than the level 24 root. The level 49 root has the 2.5 second cast time like the level 24 root and lasts a maximum of 3 minutes.

So, I guess my question here is why would you ever want to use enveloping roots? Is it listed incorrectly in the wiki? Is it solely because of the cast time!?!

I don't remember a duration difference between these when I leveled my blue druid, but that was years ago. Test it out and see if it really does drop early. Downranking root isn't a terrible thing to do if you are doing something mana intensive anyway, so if you go that route it should be fine to just use the lower one. The damage is nice though on the higher roots.

The only difference between the two root lines is the cast time and duration, yes. I mostly just use the level 49 Root as it's the most applicable for root-rotting but if you were say CC'ing in a dungeon group the lower cast time might be more valuable.

Pretty much on every class I ever played with roots I ised the lowest level one and that's it. Druid grasping roots at 5 set for life

Depends on what you are doing but in general, Enveloping roots for now. That 1.75 cast time can be the difference of taking one less round of hits and its low enough mana its not hard to refresh if you have to. The direct damage is nice off of it too.

LEVEL 5-23 Grasping Roots (always).
LEVEL 24-38 Grasping Roots (almost always), can sometimes use Ensnaring Roots for Root Rotting.
LEVEL 39-48 Grasping Roots (most of the time). Envelopping Roots (Root Rotting, Group where mana is not an issue)
LEVEL 49-55 Grasping Roots (most of the time). Engulfing Roots (Root Rotting). Envelopping Roots (Group where mana is not an issue).

lvl 56+ guess
LEVEL 56-59 Engorging Roots (always).
LEVEL 60 Engorging Roots (almost always), can sometimes use Entraping Roots for AoE CC or multi-target Root Rotting.

long story short, you're gonna have grasping roots up on your spellbar pretty much all the time forever.

Never realized the first druid root only lasted 6 ticks until now. Yuck.

But at least it does 10 dmg!

Enveloping Roots seems to last longer than a minute but never really timed it. Still forgetting one thing Grasping Roots will be resisted far more at higher levels so you will end up casting it more times to get it to stick.

Nope. I use nparse for spell timers. Enveloping root breaks within 6 seconds of the timer expiring (when the tick occurs) every time (assuming it dosen't break early).

I did an experiment on the corrupt qeynos guards in WK. The 24 root broke within 2 ticks 8 times in a row. Sure, maybe a bad streak of RNG, but it sure didn't feel that way. The 39 root lasted the whole minute.
