Error 1017. Router problem?
Sorry if I've posted in the wrong subforum.
I get error 1017 when attempting to log in to any server. Please help. I have: Followed install instructions perfectly tried updating router firmware, linksys router tried turning on/off router firewall tried turning on/off router uPNP tried turning on/off router DMZ tried forwarding all ports tried bypassing router and directly connecting to PC antivirus and windows firewall are disabled I have windows XP service pack 2 I remember steam used to have a problem where people could not play with newer versions of their router's firmware. I wonder if that's the problem here. |
might be a port / NAT problem

Are you using DSL where your router is built-in to your modem so they can't be separated or are you on cable where you potentially have a cable modem that feeds into your router?
If you have a modem -> Router -> Computer connection, try connecting your computer directly to your modem and then logging in. If you continue to get the same error, something else is wrong. If you're able to log in, then it's something with your router. Look into port forwarding at that point. |
I've tried port forwarding, and I've tried bypassing the router, still same 1017 error.

Is your processor a dual-core? If so:
http://www.thesafehouse.org/forums//...ad.php?t=25756 Edit: Looking at the 1017 error further, are you using the patchme command in your everquest shortcut as the setup directions indicate? Try this: Open a command prompt, start -> run -> type CMD then hit enter. Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest" and then if you have multiple cores type Start /affinity 1 eqgame.exe patchme Otherwise, just do eqgame.exe patchme |
Thanks for replying, baalzy. Yes, I have a dual core CPU. patchme is already in my target.
I think /affinity only works with Vista, and if I try set affinity with the task manager it says access is denied. But I disabled a core by going to start menu, run, msconfig, boot.ini, advanced options, /NUMPROC=1. Still error 1017. |
I can play Everquest on another PC in my home network, an old single core computer, but still no luck on my original dual core PC.
I've also tried to get it to run on one core by making a shortcut to runfirst.exe with this as the target: C:\Path to EQ\EverQuest\RunFirst.exe "eqgame.exe patchme". Still same error. Any help is appreciated. |
Service Pack 2? You need to seriously update your computer.
Windows Update should be visible from your start menu, if not look around. OR update.microsoft.com Make sure your system is clean - run some kind of virus scan (MS Security essentials is free) & run some kind of malware app like Malwarebytes, it does have a free version also. (www.malwarebytes.org) You can't multi-box on p99, so if you have EQ open on this other PC and are trying to use it on this PC it won't work. Also, did you make the change to the eqhosts.txt file? |
Yes, the eqhosts file is correct.
