Pretty sure its because eq pvp is a joke compared to every other game with pvp. If people want to pvp id assume they would play wow or others instead of eq. EQ pvp is only viable (somewhat) now because of nostalgia for the meager population it can sustain, imo.

I loved EQ pvp when I was a teen in early 2000s. I remember the thrill of gank squadding people.

The mechanics are very wonky though and I'd assume you couldn't really get into it without growing up with it. I assume that's why Red99 died, such a niche market.

It relied heavily on naive soloists to be taken advantage of by groups of twinks. So this sort of situation naturally kills off their prey entirely.

Ur so right my dude getting ganked by a geared de levelled guy who has been playing eq pvp for 20 years over and over sounds like an absolute blast i cant believe i didnt join red earlier
