Hi, I'm new

Wondering what would be a good class to play here. What are the least played classes that people are often trying to find? Alternatively, what does there seem to be an abundance of and I should maybe avoid?

Thanks in advance.

I would strongly suggest playing the class you want to play. At the end of the day you are playing a game for fun and going to put a lot of hours into leveling a character. It really should be one you enjoy.

I rolled a cleric for my first character, was loved by many. Always found a group quickly, never had much of an issue staring at health bars etc.

Burnt out in the 50s though, didn't enjoy it like I thought I would.

Definitely follow Atmas' advice, play something you'll enjoy. If running around is your thing, pick a melee/tank type character. Or if you want to just sit down and press buttons, a caster might be more for you.

Do what a lot of people do.... try everything eventually ;)

Welcome to the server!

Check out this recent reddit post, good info on there. Browse the subreddit a bit as well, there was just a post about most fun/boring classes with some good discussion. Typical advice: raids need rogues/clerics, simply do not roll your first character with this in mind however. Groups at all levels welcome rogues/enchanters with open arms. Lots of monks, but super fun and powerful, and welcome for dps/pulling. All other classes are pretty much welcomed equally as well as there is no longer a hybrid class xp penalty.

Druid is a nice first char. All your other chars will enjoy druid services (getting spell scrolls from all around the world...) and once you hit 29 you can offer porting services for easy money.

But if you don't like the druid play style, better avoid. Druids are good in groups until late game when their heals can not keep up.

I would try everything.

Start with the classes that interest you and don't be afraid to try the classes that you have no interest in. They might surprise you.

I had no interest in Necro, but now it's one of my favorite classes.

Classes also have group and raid responsibilities, so those are important to keep in mind.

As a new player, I would recommend:
  • Druid
  • Necromancer
  • Rogue
  • Magician

Druid is a great first choice, but you're likely to get it to 46 and shelf it as a porting-for-money character that will fund your 2nd (main) character.

It'll introduce you to a lot of game mechanics, travel is a breeze, etc. Pick your next character based on what you like about what you see going on in your groups.

If you're dead set against druid, Necro / Rogue / Mage / Cleric are all great first classes as well as they need almost no gear to be effective.

The least played classes are the hybrids - rangers, paladins, shadow knights.

However, as others mentioned I would focus on selecting a class that appeals to you rather than something that is not heavily played. In addition just b/c not many play those classes doesn't mean you will find it easier to get a group or be more useful on raids... in fact quite the opposite.

I'd suggest reading over the classes in the wiki and decide what sounds like the most fun to you.
