Mob Corpse Disappears Before Looting

When I am quad kiting, I've noticed that when the mobs don't die all at once, I have to loot immediately or the corpse will rot in about 5 seconds.

Is this intentional?

I saw this happen when quadding raptors in TD. When a mob has no items or coin, they have a fast disappear rate.
