Yes, turn off helm display and pretend you have no idea what people are talking about when they say your helm looks dumb.

You can quest or otherwise obtain a new helm. The custom helm graphic is per-item, not per-character. The difficulty of doing this might range from easy (Thurgadin helms) to rather impractical (Kromzek Kings or similar high-end items).
