New Player - looking for pointers

Evening future groupies!

I used to play EQ wayyyyy back when now i'm looking to give project 99 a try with my wife and old roommate who I used to raid with... so far i'm loving it.

Figured i'd open a thread since i saw someone posting that they were selling a stack of bone chips for 5pp??? I remember PP being a lot harder to come by...

any pointers for a new monk starting out on best practices to get some starter cash? or how to get some decent monk gear early on?

appreciate any advice this community can provide

Loot all silks and bone chips! They are a bit hard to sell, but once you can sell them, you get a lot of pp for a low level player.

If you travel to highhold keep to kill goblins in your 20's, you can sell the ears there for a lot of money also.

You can camp shralok packs in kithkor forest at lvl 16 or something, they are not lore and sell for 125 pp each.

If you hang around EC and are polite, you might get handouts. Many high levels doesnt bother taking the time to sell items thats only worth 50-100pp, and give them away instead.

One of the things I like about this server is that its really active, back on live there wasnt really a market for orc belts or bone chips. Here you can make money on lvl 5 and afford items that really makes a difference!

Welcome to Project 1999! :)
Plat is pretty hard to come by on p99. Granted it's now 2018 so people are much more informed than they were in 1999-2001. The best source of plat is from other players at this point on Project 1999. Farm an item worth a few thousand plat, run to EC, /auction your item and hope someone buys it!

I've never played monk extensively but my advise is to save up for good weapons and 2x platinum fire wedding rings.

Going to point you towards the wiki, It contains an invaluable amount of information.

Good monk weaps early on are cheap and nice. Like 50p for .5 ratio @ 18 delay

If you're iksar, then awesome, go to FoB spiderling tunnels and just farm spiderling silk cause that stuff sells nice. Then kurn's and by the time you leave at 20 you'll have backpacks full of stacks of bone chips.

HQ bear skins sell for 30pp to players. DF slashed belts from EC sell for 5pp if you rather sell them instead of use them for XP turn ins.

Get a Wu's Quivering Staff, it's 2hb can be bought for 100pp or less from players, this will last you a long while. It's 23/28. If you prefer 1hb, grab Master Wu's Trance Sticks for DWing, they sell for 100pp or less each usually.

Get 55hp/5ac rings they will last you till you 50+ and give you the most survivability for the cost. They run about 150pp each. Stockmarket crafts them and usually sells them cheaper than anyone else from the EC tunnel.

I would add that it’s very easy to earn money at high levels. For example, when 55+, it’s not difficult to get loot in Seb that sells for 16-45k. My point is, don’t stress too hard about earning money early on and having the best gear. It’s not needed. Just try to level and earn what you can as you do. Being high level is the best money maker. Hope you enjoy it

Thanks for the tips all, some very good stuff in here.. For now I'm taking it slow while waiting on an IP Exemption for my wife.. then the real fun will begin! Currently sitting at level 10 and waiting.. don't want to get too far ahead :)

So far in the short span of time i've been here, i can easily say that the community is amazing, so much better than most i've seen in the recent past.. stay classy all!

Will your wife play one of these awesome very shy druid, slow on answering tells and a bit clumsy on the commands, doing mostly buffs and heals cause DPSing is a bit hard? Or one of these classic very shy magicians, super focused on controlling their pets so they can't speak or move so much? ;)
