The truth is; Rogean, awesome person who not only supports his staff but has allowed us all to enjoy this experience has spent countless hours of personal time making sure we can get this wonderful experience.
The rest of the staff also do a ton of work, which is taken out of their personal time, whether it be smoking, drinking or actual work, in order to have this wonderful P99 'project'.
But....
I'll leave it at that. ***tin foil hats on***

It kinda depends on your definition of "rich".
Rogean is clearly an experienced IT expert. I don't know his exact specialty (eg. whether he's more pure IT or more dev-ops), so I can't provide a Glass Door link or anything, but regardless if the dude isn't making six figures he's doing something wrong.
Six figures in annual income might sound rich, but depending on where you live it really might not be (I make six figures in Silicon Valley and I certainly am not "rich"). Plus, servers cost a lot: Project 1999 is not something you can use a $20/month shared hosting service for, it's something you need "real servers" for.
Even if you ignore the one-time cost of the servers themselves (a few k each I'd imagine) the rack space alone is going to cost a few hundred a month. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I kind of doubt people give enough in donations to even cover the costs.
But even if I'm wrong, and folks donate say $600/month and the costs are only $400/month ... that's a net gain of $200/month, for a guy who makes like $20k a month. I promise you, he is not getting "rich" of P99.
