Crashing when logging in specific character.

Okay, so technical stuff first. I have not modified my install at all beyond the instructions needed to get p99 running properly. No mods, no UI, none of that.

I have like 4 characters, 3 of them I can login fine. One of them causes my entire system to crash and forces me to do a hard restart.

I've moved my install to another HD to rule out a bad read sector. I run in Administrator mode and have tried a few compatibility modes without any change.

I have deleted my character_project1999.ini file. Are there other files I can delete like that? I don't see any others.

Any ideas? This has been going on off and on for awhile, like my first login of the day, would crash, then it would be fine on my 2nd attempt for HOURS. Now I can't even type a message before hard crash.

It could be zone related (the zone file for the zone your char is in got corrupted somehow). You could test this by moving that char to a different zone using another (eg. friend's) computer, then try logging in on the original one.

If that is the problem the only fix I know is to reinstall.

I am actively logged in with another character in the same zone and general location.

Look in your log folder. Odd as it may sound there might be something going on with your character log (too big or who knows)? Delete the log associated with the character that you're having an issue with.

In your userdata folder you might delete any configuration settings files for the character in question. Probably doesn't have anything to do with your crashing but who knows.

Next I'd recommend deleting your character configuration settings files and letting EQ rebuild them. Look for charactername_project1999.ini and UI_charactername_project1999.ini

Perfect, I'll try this later tonight, thank you!

So I had no character files in the Logs folder.

Userdata was also totally empty.

But deleting the UI_charactername file seemed to do the trick!
