Spending Training Points?
 

I haven't really been using my training points, aside from dropping 1 point into pretty much everything. Is there anything I should be saving these for or any skill that I should be using these on specifically?

Right - trade skills is about the only place it makes sense. Other skills develop themselves through use. It's good to put some extra in the skills that are a pain to get up. Swimming maybe

I'd say training points have three main uses:

• learning languages
• getting tradeskills to 20
• learning skills faster

Language skills can be improved by listening to someone speak the language, but unless you know someone who speaks Elder Tier'dal (or whatever language) you'll need to spend a training point to be able to speak it yourself.

Similarly tradeskills can be learned without training, but they're a hassle and some require spending money, so it makes sense to use training points instead. And then similarly training points can be handy for any other skill that's annoying to learn (sense heading if you don't key-bind it, swimming, spell schools that you don't use often like Divination on a Shaman, etc.).

I guess Ioramin didn't level a pure caster yet. If you don't want to rely on others for your research you will need most of your points for just that. Training research without using points is very painfull and nobody really does it.

I always recommend to put a few pts into new skills, e.g. if you get dual whield or double attack as a melee - as I feel that the first gains in these skills are the hardest.

correct me if i am wrong here but some skills will not go up at all if you dont train the first point in them as well. like sense heading

Sense heading will skill up from 0, it just takes about 30 levels worth of constantly spamming the button to luck out and get that first skill up.

Personally I like to look at my pile of unspent points and resist the temptation of dumping them all (and all my platinum too!) into training up begging.

You are correct, I haven't :) But I didn't forget research, I was just counting it as a tradeskill. What I didn't realize was that you can spend more than 20 points on research, which admittedly makes it a bit different from other tradeskills.

I forget, is begging useful (even a little bit) for generating agro here?

It could generate aggro in theory, but it's the equivalent of body aggro and also..
