New Ranger - Self Found - What items to seek?

Hi Guys,

I just started a Ranger (currently level 8) with Auld Lang Syne so it is kind of like a self found character. I was wondering what items I should be looking to camp/quest. I currenrkt have mostly patchwork gear (from Crushbone Belt turn-ins), a tarnished bastard sword/ round shield and a tarnished halberd that I switch between. I was planning on going to Queynos Catacombs to get some alligator tooth earrings and eventually getting a chitin shell shield and Runed Bonefork from Upper Guk. Other than that I need some advice on quests I should look into it drops I should camp. I'm having fun so far, let me know what you guys think!

in qeynos cat, you can also get some +hp rings and some low stat necklace... and also a cape. I love qeynos cat!

The wiki says the Limestone Rings drop from an undead knight which is level 35? Is that incorrect or does it drop from a lower level mob as well?

P.S. Awesome name!

nope, low level mobs, I think the nested rat is the worst of all the one for these 4 drops...

edit: the level 35 undead knight are the one from solustek temple... the wiki is sometime really broken when multiple NPC have the same name...

A vendor bought claymore makes a good starter weapon for 'self found' characters.

Jagged pine crook for magic attacks.

Bloodforge hammer is a quest you can consider.

Once you can kill wisps you can farm lightstones/greater lightstones to hand into gypsies or south ro dark elves for xp / cash items.

I did this on my self found warrior until about level 17 and had enough platinum to buy a full set of vendor purchased plate! You could get the vendor purchased chain if you aren't interested in smithing; don't be put off by the high price because the resale value is actually pretty good.

If I'm going to buy a Claymore (11/43), should I just shell out a few extra plat and go for the Two-Handed Sword (12/45) for a slightly better ratio?

+1 Was pretty happy when I learned that. Makes filling in slots on random alts easy. It sells for 10% less than you paid for I believe. Effectively making the chainmail cost roughly the same as banded from a player.

Once you're a bit higher, the Runed oak bow from South Karana is quite serviceable.

Don't forget the quest for the Trueshot Longbow in Gfay. Even if you start in Qeynos and don't make the run / boat ride to Faydwer until level 12ish, it is still worth it.

Short sword of Morin quest should be easily soloable in your teens if you can land a snare on the Ghoul and bow kite it down.
