Least taxing class on my hands

Hey, im an ex EQ classic player and I got p99 up and running great, minus some full sreen/windowed mode issues. Aside from that I'm trying to pick a class that will have the least impact on my hands. I suffer from bad arthritis but I still manage to work at a computer for most of the week.

I was hoping to get back into EQ to meet some cool people, and come down at night and on the weekends. I was hoping for a class that wouldn't mean much clicking and button mashing. I assume Bard and Shaman are out of the question.

I originally played a Ranger to 60 back in the day and a Necro to around 50 so I' like to avoid those classes and probably anyone with an XP penalty. Btw when I was in HS my friends were making fun of me for leveling slower...I never knew about the penalty but it all makes sense now :D

I was thinking Enchanter since I abandoned that class a long time ago and regretted it, but maybe thats a bit too much clicking around.

Thanks for any help

All depends on what constitutes "to much". If your able to comfortably type and move/click a mouse. Pretty much any class will do (other than bard.) If holding your hand in such a way to allow access to wasd and #keys causes you pain, then most melee would be difficult. Some casters, like wizards and mages really don't have a lot of buttons to push and can be played primarily with mouse clicks quite easily, if needed. Also clerics can. Enchanters are fun, but they require fast reaction button pushing, not a lot of buttons necessarily, but have to be ready at all times for those mezzes and pet break recharms, or you and or the group could wipe. So if your hands cause enough pain for you that you are constantly having to rub/massage them and remove them from the keys, id advise against an enchanter.

Just my two cents, but ultimately, play what you want, it's a game, have fun.

Ranger imo. Waiting on a res doesn't require a lot of typing..

Seriously though, how about a cleric?

If you are planning on grouping mostly, deniedius then cleric or mage fits the bill. Due to their roles being specialized in groups they tend to be fairly passive and don't have many button mashing moments. Wizards are slightly might be slightly more active in groups and solo quite well, but soloing does require quite a bit of activity.

Welcome to P99 and best of luck!

A cleric can have some insanely hyperactive moments when the stuff is going down.

I also think a mage might be good, since your pet will be doing most of the "clicking."

Cleric is perhaps best class for you. Having leveled up to 45, I'll tell you all you do is sit and heal when needed. Sure you can throw a root or DD occasionally but you just heal. You can set up macros to handle all your buffing too.
Wizard is another click and sit class. My only issue with say a Mage is when you need to control your pet in a sticky situation. You have to spam "pet back" quite a bit to get off say a rooted mob or not to attack a mezzed one.
I suppose though you should perhaps just try out a class and see how taxing it can be to your hands. Though honestly, I wonder if the clicking won't be to bad but the typing in group chat. Then again, macros can take care of like 70% of the convo.
Good luck in choosing and welcome to the game. Hopefully your arthritis won't be too problematic. This really is a fun game.

Thanks for all the responses. I was looking forward to trying a shaman but im reading about the whole cannibalizing thing. Sounds tough. Honestly I may give a cleric a go. I just hope leveling isn't going to be too tough early on. I also always wanted to play a mage back in the day so maybe Ill try both out. Thanks!

go mage if u want path of least resistance it really can be pressing like 1 button per mob if you want it to be.

If these issues are what most people run into, open your eqclient.ini and scroll like 2/3 of the way down. You're looking for width, height, windowed width, windowed height. You want to make sure those are the same as your desktop resolution. What happens is the game thinks you're clicking on the desktop instead of in game and forces you into windowed mode.

If this isn't your issue, maybe it'll help someone else. :)

Also, mage cleric or wizard are all low impact classes if you group. Wizard is least desirable in most groups though.

Wizards are great, but nobody wants them in groups. Mine is sitting at 34 after being LFG for a few weeks with no bites.

Everyone wants a cleric and they're as simple as wizards.

Mages are slightly more desirable than wizards and solo quite a bit easier; pull pet up, buff pet, summon weapons for pet /pet attack... profit. Pet got taunted off the target you want to kill first (healer) hit your /pet back off + /pet attack key to get them back on target. It's pretty much that simple.

Enjoy your time on P99 and welcome!
