Isn't that how all rogue NPCs behave? I think it's just an EverQuest thing, like snakes kicking.

Yeah if an NPC is a rogue it can backstab regardless of what weapon it's holding. It was the same on live.

scarelings backstab from the front/sides occasionally too. Weird.
