Trouble playing Project 1999, or in that case, any server

I have admired this game for a whole year, I want to play it so bad, I've been using the torrent from Piratebay and I've got a Windows Vista, I always get the Error 1017, can never play stopped trying to get things working about 7 months ago, but now im back, I saw that whoever made the torrent updated it and said there was a problem with the 5th disk, maybe by downloading the new one will help, please give me a few other ideas and reasons for why its not working, I'm not a computer genius or any of that so I would like some good clear ideas in plain english and with steps and guides to help me. Maybe you cant use the torrent or something? I dunno, I just need some well- thought out answers, this game looks unbelievably great and I want to relive my first experiences with EQ,

Thanks, Spongeboobsquirepants

Can't really speak to the veracity of torrents, but if you have a proper install of the Titanium client and you make sure not to patch (adding patchme to the end of your eqgame.exe shortcut), that should take care of the 1017 error.

so do add "patchme" or dont?

Do add patchme

So, if you click properties on your shortcut to eqgame.exe, under Target: it should say:

"C:\...\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

the ... being whatever directories between the drive and Everquest (you shouldn't have to change that)... leave the quotes as they are and just add patchme by itself to the end.

Also, if you've already patched, you'll need to reinstall the entire client.
