Which class for a very new player?
Hi everyone,
I'm so happy to be joining this new community. I'm just beginning my journey into EQ so I wanted to ask for some input on what class you all recommend? I heavily lean towards spell caster in general, either supportive or damaging. I like to play in teams, so I also wanted to check if there were any classes that were in high demand for parties? I would rather not play a class which is boring/weak until late game, as I am trying to enjoy my ride up to the higher level content. Thanks for the input guys, I will be checking back soon. |
Mage if blue enchanter if red

i would agree mage is kinda hard to shit the bed on,no one realy expects much out of a mage(i.e buffs, heals, snares, pulling that kinda stuff but they do good damage and have best pets/support spells for pets in game.and on a side note the can summon some usefull little things here and there and have decent nukes.

Mage I agree with its probably the best starter char. Enchanter on the other hand is quite a bit more complex and difficult to play. Maybe paladin, sk, ranger, druid.

Cleric is probably the best easy party class. Everyone likes them, they are always in demand, you will never be expected to pull, and your job is fairly simple, buffing and healing. You'll have to group all the time, though.
Other classes that are in high demand are slightly more complicated, like the enchanter or shaman. Tanks are also in demand (warrior, paladin, shadowknight), but you'll have to pull and pick targets. Mage is OK, easy to play, but not really in demand in groups. People won't turn you away though. Necros are kind of the same way, more complicated to play and with a more varied tool chest. Every other class either has a surplus (monk, rogue) or aren't as good for various other reasons (wizard, ranger, druid). Oh, and bards. They have a bad rep on this server from swarm kiting and they are complicated to play, but they are awesome in groups. I wouldn't recommend them for your first character, though; you'll have a lot of hatred to overcome. |
I would roll necro. Need hardly any gear and get stronger and stronger as you level. Read some guides on caster subforum and check out project 1999 wiki for gear, upcoming spells and also hunting guides.
If you're confused or need to ask questions go to east commonlands and ask for advice or help. Hopefully whatever class you pick, you can find a high level of that class to give you some tips. Necro or most caster classes are solo friendly and most are good at farming plat/items. Good luck with whatever class you pick. |

I'd also suggest playing a wizard or druid. They're a little tougher to get off the ground, but at higher levels you'll be welcome in groups as well as being able to solo. |
If you want to group: Cleric of Shaman. Cleric if you want to be the best at something (healing); Shaman if you want to be great at support in general.
Shaman is expensive to gear, but mostly because Torpor and Fungi Tunic are game changing for the class. Epic is relatively easy with some guild help. Cleric isn't expensive and will find a lot of help from guild members when doing their epic quest. If you love to sit on your ass and chat this class is for you. |
I would vote cleric as well. Easy class, and you don't have to worry about research, basically all your spells up to 50 are sold from vendors. You can solo with a cleric, but its not fast and you should prefer undead targets. You should not have a lot of problems finding a group. Up until the 30ties clerics healing abilities are about the same as the other priests, but then suddenly people will start to need a cleric in a group. That's the same time when druids start to have problems finding a group.
