Returning player, new problems!

So I haven't played P99 in a while but after finding a streamer streaming it, I figured what the smeg? I'll reinstall my Titanium and play again. I get it installed, rush here to get the latest patch files (since EQEmu Launcher no longer works/is supported). Open EQ, and what happens? I get the EQ cursor, but just a black screen. I've tried every tip/trick suggested on EQEmu's page, as well as the stuff in the FAQ here. I reinstalled, same effect.

I'm using a shortcut to eqgame.exe on my desktop that looks exactly like the path shown in the FAQ here, including the patchme at the end. Nothing. It's running as admin, in compatibility mode (xp sp 2). Anyone got any other ideas for me to try?

I have the exact same problem. I've configured everything as is depicted in the FAQ/Guide but as soon as I launch the game, whether it be from eqgame.exe or LaunchTitanium.bat, it shoots me to the black window with the EQ Cursor at which point I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close it. It also lowers my resolution to 800x600 or something similar, if that information is useful to anyone.

What's your actual operating system? XP does bring up some weird bugs, not heard of the black screen before though. Is the cursor white/windows looking?

Were you in compatibility mode the last time you played before taking a break?

lavit2099 07-08-2015 08:43 PM

No, I didn't. Last time I played (which was probably years ago now) I didn't have to. This was right around the time EQEmu Launcher was patched to fix the 1 core vs. multi core issue.

I'm using the same OS, Win7, as I was then, but I have reformatted (which is why I had to reinstall). I tried sans compatibility mode and get the same error. The cursor is the EQ cursor (golden arrow with white in the middle), it just never actually gets to the log in screen or anything. No sound, no nuffin. I let it sit and wait nearly 20 minutes, still nothing.

Have you double-checked your graphics card, DirectX version, and the screen resolution setting in the eqclient.ini file?

lavit2099 07-08-2015 09:15 PM

The OptionsEditor had my graphics card listed twice. I've tried selecting both of them, same thing. I've set the screen resolution to 1280x1024 and 800x600. Same thing, no matter what option I pick.

I'm currently using DirectX 11. Looking in the eqclient.ini file, I don't see anything related to any of that in there. I'll copy/paste it here.

You need a specific version of DirectX (9-something - you will have to look it up). EQ does not like more up to date versions for some reason.

The setting I'm referring to is the 'video mode' down there at the bottom. I've found if the resolutions of Windows and EQ conflict (EQ doesn't run at the same proportions as a lot of modern HD monitors), you tend to get a black screen. Check DirectX first, though. That might be the issue.

Yeah, I play a lot of modern games and can't be downgrading to DX9 just to play this one version of EQ (the live server works just fine).

You dont have to downgrade. It just needs one of the Dll files found in directx9.0c. Also change the window resolution to match your monitor resolution.

After changing my monitor resolution to 1280x780 and raising the game's as high as I can, it was actually able to load. Not playable, though. It's in a window that doesn't fit the screen, can't full screen, and doesn't really allow me to tab out/have other things running. My plan was to have EQ up on my other screen while WoW raiding (because I enjoy the sitting and waiting for guys to respawn) but, even though it's in a window, it won't load when my monitors are at their normal resolution.

EDIT: Holy snap. I go to open it so I can try moving it to my other monitor and suddenly it works in its windowed form. Yay! It may be playable now.
