Does Sneak/Hide work vs. everything?

Hello everyone,

I'm curious if Sneak/Hide works against every creature in the game. Can I confidently roam the lands or crawl through any dungeon in Norrath without having to con things to see if they can see me, or can certain monsters/NPC's see through?

Whatever that sees invis will see you. With time you will learn to consider around some places, specially if there are caster mobs.

Sneak will work against anything if you're standing in the rear arch.

Nope...

Go into Sol A with an invisible caster and watch how you can hide/sneak through the zone, but they get caught every thirty seconds. There are specific mobs who can see through hide, far fewer than there are see-invisible mobs, but sneaking may still be effective as long as you stay behind these mobs.

That is, unless something changed in a recent patch...

I remember on classic you used to be able to hide/sneak past everything but the dragons. Now on here I don't know.

I've never tried the dragons, but I took a level 10 rogue into Chardok and most of the way through it until I met a Chokidai Mangler. Even then, I got quite close before it aggroed (maybe I had been keeping to the rear 270-degree arc instinctively) and killed me in a single hit.

To be fair, you can /con the mobs to see if they will aggro. You may have to drop sneak for a moment, but the game will tell you if a mob is aware of you long before you enter aggro range.

The only mob to watch out for while you learn the ropes, the first experience many players will have of a mob which sees through hide, would be the Royal Guards in Crushbone; they are invisible too, meaning that they tend to see you before you see them and attack in pairs. Worse, they hide in the tunnel up to the throne room, so they will often drag some high-level (compared to the level of players in Crushbone) mobs onto your head.

http://wiki.project1999.com/Skill_Sneak
  • Sneak will let you get past see-invisible mobs as long as you stay behind them.
  • Undead can not see through hide-sneak, unlike basic invisible. Hide-sneak is treated as Invisible+IVU.

I am 99% sure that the wiki is wrong; I have walked right past the nose of many mobs with see invis. The ones who can see hidden will have a reduced aggro range, but See Invisible was not enough to penetrate Hide back in March and the patch notes don't say anything about 'fixing' Hide.

Check the wiki for mobs marked see hide for the ones you need to sneak behind. Feel free to avoid the ones marked See Invisible, but I don't believe there will be any issues and I will go confirm that later...

Edit: The discussion page for Sneak in the wiki admits that it is copy-pasted and may not apply to P1999...

Sneak/hide was changed in a patch about 6 months ago to be effective like classic. Can't recall the last time I was seen in Seb/Hate/VP etc ( previously Rogues were worse than Monks -and no better than any class with sneak plus an invis ring- at CR/scouting due to the way rogue hide was broken)

nothing in the game will see you if you are sneaking behind them

most mobs in the game can't see through sneak/hide at all

dragons, dogs in chardok, and a few plane of hate mobs are the only ones that come to mind who can
