Differences between this and EQ

Can anyone point on the most important differences between playing p1999 and starting a level 1 character on the official EQ servers?

The sound of crickets as you are the only one in the starting zones on EQLive?

This server only goes to velious. Nothing past velious is enabled. On live everything is enabled.

Can you explain why that is a good or bad thing with specific examples?

surely.

the EQ Live Progression Server Ragefire will have features that were added with expansions, such as the Bazaar (Luclin), armor dye (LoY), out-of-combat regeneration (TSS), and mercenaries (SoD), will mostly be unlocked when those expansions were unlocked, with the following exceptions that will be enabled day one:

The Raid window Maps Augmentations AAs (though most abilities still are restricted by level or expansion) Saving recipes in tradeskill containers Audio Triggers Many Achievements (but not kill or collect achievements) Hotbar revamps (but not item clicking in bags) Guild rank customizations Because leadership AAs were introduced as an expansion feature but later added for free to everyone, they will be available upon launch as well.

Like the previous two Progression Servers, zones that were graphically revamped (Freeport, Commonlands, Nektulos, Lavastorm, Ro) will be in their revamped form. The Progression servers have to co-exist with live servers, so they need to have the same geometry running on all of them. In cases where the geometry was the same but population changed, they will use the original populations where possible:

Cazic-Thule - Will begin in the form after Rubicite was removed. Plane of Hate - Will be in the current layout, but with population much like the original zone after the first loot revamp. Plane of Fear - Will have population the same as the first loot revamp. Veeshan's Peak - Original population, but no death restrictions

Can anyone give an opinion on why its good or bad to have\not have the things mentioned in this thread? Obviously subjective but thats fine.

EQ was originally designed with immersion in mind. That means you actually feel like you're in a different world with consequences for your actions and realistic travel times, everything tradable, etc.

The reason to play here is simple. On p99 you are on Norrath now and you play by Norraths rules. On EQ Live you are playing a forgettable video game that caters to whatever mass appeal strikes SoE/Daybreak on that particular month.

-If you want to pretend you're in a solo console game boxing multiple accounts so you never have to speak to a single person, EQ Live has got you covered.

-If you want to travel anywhere in the blink of an eye instead of taking a boat and/or bartering for a player to teleport you, EQ Live has got you covered.

-If you want any loot you find to be throwaway in a day or so because you find so much and it's all non tradable, EQ Live has got you covered.

-If you want to pay for half ass expansions that have 8 zones total when the old expansions included 30+, EQ Live has got you covered.

-If you want to level 10 levels per day and/or pay $$ for levels instead of earning them, EQ Live has got you covered.

Who the hell are you Morley Safer? Why do you care what any of us think?

I ain't answering no questions until I get to speak to a forum lawyer. This sounds like a setup.

The largest difference I can point at is also quite subjective, but is why I have left EQ Live and play on p1999 exclusively now. That difference being that p1999 is not full of SOE bloat. For example, when I create a new toon on Live, I can level up faster and obtain gear within the first five levels that many playing on p1999 don't see even in the endgame. The SOE Live experience seems to me to be about getting a toon out of the newbie yard and into the end game as fast as possible. When it wasn't fast enough, they started selling heroic characters taking you to level 85 with about 5k AAs.

Here on p1999 it is the experience and challenge that I remember when I first starting playing EQ back in 2000. All the things I hated back then (e.g. corpse runs, hell levels, waiting on boats, etc.) turned out to be all the things that made the game fun for me.

Nice post but you can get 50 levels in a few hours on live. :p
