Necromancer Epic - getting a feel for it
So, I'm relatively new, but totally addicted to the necro. Before playing him I was playing a shammy, a class for which the epic is fairly manageable (didn't want to say easy, as that feels wrong, but you know what I mean).
It's my impression that the necro epic is one of the more difficult epics to do. Back in the day on live I played a chanter and got my epic there and that felt like a "middle" difficulty one. I've breezed through the walk-through on wiki but it's hard to really guage how tough it is from that. I can work out that boss loot from PoH won't be easy to come by, and the PoS bit also seems a bit testing, but yeah, all in all it's hard to really know what to think. So, I guess I'm asking to hear from any necros out there that have their epic... how rough of a road is ahead of me? I should maybe say that I'm not a hard core player and as such probably won't end up raiding super often. Is it worth it? Is the clicky good enough to warrent getting it? |
Getting from the start to the Symbol after the Lake Rathetear fight isn't too hard. In fact you can skip it all if you instead just kill Kazen rather than running around collecting herbs, heads and robes. But Kazen requires at least a group of 60s.
The hard part of the necro epic are the last 3 pieces: 1. Cloak from Sky - Keeper of Souls drops it rarely, we see maybe 1 every 3 months. 2. Eye from Innoruuk - Inny is very contested. You need to be in an active raiding guild to acquire one (it isn't that rare from Inny). Or buy one for 100-150k I would think. 3. Slime Blood from CT - CT is also very contested. You need to be in an active raiding guild to acquire one... It is EXTREMELY rare from CT. If you join a Class C guild (Rampage/TMO) you would be behind a few mains and alts in the list to get one. You'd have to prove your worth by putting in the time to be awarded one. If you join a Class R guild who kills CT (BDA/Taken/Indignation/AG/Europa/Omni), the reality of the situation is you will not see one awarded to you before Velious releases and the planes are revamped. There are far more senior and tenured necromancers in every one of those guilds awaiting the Slime Blood. For reference Taken has seen 4-5 Inny Eyes and 0 Slime Bloods in about 10-20 kills of each. Necromancer is the only epic we don't have one of currently. As for its use. Great stat item until Zlandicar Heart is an option in Velious. The clicks is useful in that it's a mana free DoT. A lot more useful for something like Root/Rotting once snare/afoot stack. If you're not a hardcore raider you probably won't ever get the necro epic. *Maybe* once Slime Blood moves to golems. Even then you'd have to have a group ready to kill golems who spawn every 3 days and you'd still need to raid PoSky regularly to get the cloak. |
Thanks a bunch for the reply. I feared as much. I guess I'll do the leg work as I get a bit stuck in there levelling. If I can get to the point where "all" I'm missing are the those three pieces, I guess that's all I can do and then wait and see what the status is by then.
Do you happen to know when the two God pieces are moved from being God-only loot? Is it in Velious? Or not until later? |
3-4 months after Velious.
The Eye is moved from Innoruuk to minis in Hate The Slime Blood is moved from Cazic to Golems (who then get 3 day respawns and 2/3 get DT) The golems will be just as contested as CT was, and the blood remains a rare drop from them. All that aside, you do need to regularly raid PoSky to get the cloak anyways... So you'll need to raid is some capacity. |
Thanks for the insights. Yeah, I think I will need to consign myself to the fact that I won't be getting it. At least not for a good long while.
I guess it is less of a boon than the shammy due to the clicky not stacking with the darkness line, right? |

Nec epic is one of the rarest ones to get.
Very very annoying to see other classes at level 5, (and lower) with epics. EG: monk, rog I feel that epics are too eeezeee and all should be like the Nec epic to get.. something to aspire to one day get. |
