Policy for Scam of a puppet strings

I just need a clarification of what would happen if a puppet strings got stolen while it was loaned to someone for a fee to get an OT hammer, would the scammer get banned and the owner of the puppet strings reimbursed or would it fall under the policy of "there is no guarantee you will get your items or PP back". That thread http://www.project1999.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=186994 seemed to have muddied how that situation would be covered.

Thanks

Jygia

Did you get scammed out of puppet strings?

If so, ouch.

nope i didn't get scammed, i was just asking to verify the rule on that situation since there seems to be some confusion right now

Staff policy is to not refund MQs - in essence, OT hammer service is MQing an exploit (string recharges).

With screenshots and logs you could destroy the thief's reputation. Not sure about GM refund, though!

Sorry but just because you dont like it doesnt make it a Exploit. You really need to get over the fact that item recharging is in the game cause its not going anywhere.

I like recharging and think it should stay because it is classic, but technically I think it is an exploit isnt it? Didn't they eventually remove it on live? Still irrelevant I guess, cause it did exist in classic, but if they intended there to be item recharging on live they probably would have made like an item recharge vendor or something I would think, instead of the weird roundabout way we do it here.

Like batteries for tinkered items, or items wouldn't have charges at all. Recharging is clearly an exploit of an unintended mechanic in the way merchants handle items. Classic? Sure. Rational? Nope.

An "exploit" is in the eye of the beholder :) Many practices here on P99 would be considered exploits if you just asked a random player (or even a random GM) back in '99.

But I think the best definition of "exploit" here (a server that strives to emulate EQ as it was in '99) is "something the GMs would have punished you for doing back in '99". And by that criteria recharging isn't an exploit, because SOE didn't fix it until after the classic era. Speculating on what SOE would have done if they were running P99 just leads to non-classic thinking.
