Caution before starting
 

Well ...I have not been around long but already kinda worried. At first I had thought I found this amazing classic based EQ ... only to hear about power tripping GMs. It seems any time there is a topic about GMs/guides or whatever it always turns sour. Some people give nothing but props to Rogean and the awesome stuff he does but from what I have been told about one of the other ones is that he is on a massive power trip and bans people for /shouting or changing peoples names that in no way violate the rules.

I just dont want to get settled in and find that ...well... goes without saying.

What are some other thoughts on the subject? Will this post get me insta banned? Will it be deleted or swept under the rug?

How many times have you encountered this behavior in game?

My guess is never, stay away from the rants and flames forum if you want to get a true feel for the server.

Not sure if your trolling or if this is serious question but ill give it a shot.

The GMs/Guides do a pretty good job considering they are all volunteers and do not get paid to do what they do. Thus far I have not heard of any instances were GM's went on "power trips". The only things I have been hearing is arguments about camp disputes really. And I personally have never had any problems with the GM's on this server.

Like I said ... only played for a short while and the only time I've encountered this behavior is just about every time a conversation about GMs is happening ... not a rant, troll, or anything else. A worry.

Herein lies your problem.

95% of this server doesn't have and has never had a problem with the 'management' as it were.
It's the 5% that is overly vocal about it.

I dunno ... seems like after that one comment in CB, it exploded in rants about a GM. Thats the whole reason it had me worried. How could 15 out of 30ish people in the zone have something bad to say about a single GM?

And its usually the 5% that are mad because they got banned so they come to RnF to throw a fit...

The problem is this, in everyone's play time on here they will have something that happens to them that they honestly feel like they are wronged and like a GM should be able to fix the problem, but because of the rules the GM's MUST follow to try to be fair yet not be fooled by just any story people throw at them there will become a time where they ARE NOT able to help you, at that point.....even if they're someone you respect you feel ousted, some of the things you hear are probably caused by this, the rest are just people that like to get a rise wherever they can lol.....I haven't had my negative GM encounter yet, so far they seem faaar better the SoE GMs lol.....and most the conversations I've had IN GAME have all been positive when concerning GM's...Like someone said before, ignore the forums, base your opinion off your own interactions with the staff, stay around a bit you'll run into a few of them 8)

edit: also keep in mind the GM's here don't get anything but grief 99% of the time for all the effort they put in so we can play, this isn't SoE employee's getting a paycheck each week, I'm really surprised they're as patient with some of the people as they are considering everything they do here they do for these same people that are constantly shitting on them.......just my 2c~

I haven't had a problem with the GM's. I've only had one dispute about camp stealing, and it got resolved within minutes. I think if you spend too much time on the forums, you get a very skewed perception of the server. If you spend your time just playing I doubt you'll ever run into any "power tripping."

That's bandwagon, pack mentality based on the garbage read here on the forums.
Or as posted by Tokum, it's that they really did have a negative experience, but it was in response to them not being catered to.

The majority of those that bitch about GM's are either crybabies or liars.
Personally, I may not agree with all the ways issues are handled, but ultimately its volunteers policing a FREE server. I get the catering-to that I pay for.

I don't know how you guys do it. I wouldn't subject myself to the treatment that they regularly do.
