New Player - Which Class to Play Poll

Hello, I played Everquest when it was first released, but stopped soon after due to college. Now I've found this server and it looks fantastic. The only problem is, I have no idea what class I want to play, though I know which ones that I certainly don't. I figured that taking a poll from the forum members is as good a method as any, seeing as I have an interest in playing each of these classes. So out of the following, which do you think sounds the most fun and isn't overplayed on this server?

Cleric
Shadowknight
Paladin
Rogue
Monk
Necromancer
Ranger

This server is a wretched hive of scum and villany! 😂

Just pick one dude. Posting on the forum just brings out the drunken poop slingers.

Cleric or Necromancer.

All the other classes listed need a fungi tunic/good weapon or else leveling will be hell. If you're set on melee just don't pick a hybrid will be like eating nails.

Paladin and Ranger probably least played of your list, but Paladin among the more needed. Tanks are probably the toughest member to find while leveling, and groups will always need them. So in saying that Shadow Knight isn't a bad choice either. Rangers are very fun to play but definitely a mediocre class that needs love. Come velious though they get some perks to make soloing with them more viable (fear animal) but most people on server have a biased/hatred to the class and you may have trouble finding groups. Clerics are also always needed but there definitely seems to be more of them then tanks. Rogue/Monk are best DPS classes in the game and come Velious many many guilds will want as much melee dps as they can get so this isn't a bad choice either if you plan on making it to the end game. Necromancer is a great class for soloing and among the better choices for a first character because you wont need much gear to be viable and you can camp cash camps later on to equip other alt characters.

Over all, I'd decide what role you'd like to play.

If you want to play a tank and always be needed then go Paladin/SK/Ranger(kinda, only really while lvling up) but keep in mind that as a melee you're gear dependent and it can be tough for a first character.

If you want to play DPS then I'd go Rogue/Monk/Ranger(kinda, still behind the other two)

If you want to play a healer/rezzer and always be needed go cleric.

If you want to play a solo character with the ability to pharm end game pretty well with super utility and dps role for when in grps I'd go Necromancer.

Hope that helped some!

From that list, I would go either necro or rogue. Necro can solo competently throughout the game without requiring any good gear. You can also duo/trio effectively with a variety of classes. You'll want to be iksar, which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how much you like the look and care about where you'll do your early leveling.

Rogue is an interesting choice. While it's arguably "more gear dependent", you can play one quite cheaply. Sneak to chardok and loot one of the jagged chokidai spines that's certainly rotting. Get a rotting 21% haste belt from PoS at lvl 46. Pick up some str as you go. You can actually obtain your epic on this server, and every guild can use some extra sustained dps. Yes, you'll need a leveling partner or some larger groups. However, duos aren't that hard to put together. Get a wiz to snare and run around with tflux spam while you backstab. Get a druid to snare and fear and animal, while you backstab. Get a necromancer to snare and fear something, while you backstab. Etc. You can get groups easily, especially in places with locked doors like The Hole and HS wings. Most importantly, imo, is that your sneak/hide is the ultimate explorer's tool. No other class can so easily learn the layouts of all dungeons. This is more valuable than any amount of twinking if you decide to alt.

Necro, hybrid penalty on ranger is retarded and they are shitbad dps.
Other classes I feel are too gear dependent or dependent on a group to level, which isn't always viable.

Gee, is Marcus Back?? Sounds sort of like him.

Just play the class you like and be done with it. I might say Bard and you might not be able to Twist worth a crap, like me, so you would suck at it. No Melody on this server.

Stupid Thread. 2 of 10. Would not read again. :(

For your first character, of that list, I would go Iksar Necromancer. The regen really puts that race far above all others as a choice for Necro.

Playing a melee as a first character will get really tough, as you can't really solo effectively past the teens. And even if you plan on grouping all the time, sometimes its nice to have the option to solo when there are no groups in your area, or there are too many.

Necro will get you there the quickest, paladin/ranger the slowest and everything else in between. Shadow knights are more popular than paladins because evil appeals more to the online gaming community for some reason not to mention they are vastly superior soloers). No votes for rogue because the epic is so cheap to MQ, you regularly see low level alts with it, making it difficult for the non-twink to compete. Clerics are the most probably the third most common class I. The server with Druids being the most. I say go ranger.
