EXP penalty question
If 3 rangers were grouped, agro-kiting and pingponging mobs with bows, would they have a 120% exp penalty?

AFAIK, they would each take a 40% penalty. If a ranger was grouped with 2 others whose class/race didn't have any penalties, each person (including the ranger) would eat a 13.3% penalty.

It really just effects your average, if you have 3 rangers you have to kill exactly 3x as many mobs to keep up with the exp you would get solo.
If it was a warrior and 2 rangers together the warrior would have to kill more than 3 mobs to get his normal exp per kill, and the rangers would actually get more exp per 3 kills then they would solo kill because they are spreading out some of their exp penalty to the warrior. |
I think they've not fixed the experience penalty sharing yet, so this is all moot.

Someone can correct me, but the way I understand it is:
- Mob dies to group, group receives XP - XP is divided into 'shares' and each share is multiplied by a specific member's XP bonus or penalty - The shares are re-aggregated and distributed to the group based on level. So if a group of 3 rangers was awarded 300xp, the three shares of 100xp would be multiplied by .6, the products would be summed, then divided amongst the 3 players for an effective penalty of 40%. If it was a ranger and 2 non-penalized classes (all of equal level) it would look something like: 300 to group --> 100*1(no penalty) + 100*1(no penalty) + 100*.6(ranger) --> 260/3 = 86.6xp to each player for an effective penalty of 13.3% to the whole group. Someone with a more intimate understanding of the code can certainly correct me if I'm off, but this is how it was explained to me. |

Hippo and I both are saying that no, it wouldn't be a 120% penalty. |
