You say, 'Hail, Bungre Crawcrusher'

Bungre Crawcrusher says 'What manner of creature are you, strange one? I can see that you are not native to any nearby territories. Your thin flesh and lack of hair would mean certain death when the ice queen breathes upon these seas.'

You say, 'I am a half elf'

Bungre Crawcrusher says 'I have heard not of your kind but you are welcome to take refuge on our beaches, we only ask that you help to defend them should the predators choose to attack.'

You say, 'What predators?'

Bungre Crawcrusher says 'There are many dangerous predators that prowl the surrounding oceans and cliffs. It is my duty to train pups to become strong warriors in order to defend our villages. The wyverns on the cliffs prey primarily on the wounded and sick as well as many creatures that live in the brackish waters of our bay. The deadliest predators are the ones that roam all the coasts preying not only on my people but the Snowfangs and the Ulthork as well. Kelorek'Dar and Lodizal are the most feared of all.'

You say, 'What about Lodizal?'

Bungre Crawcrusher says 'Lodizal is a giant carnivorous sea turtle that roams the iceclad ocean preying primarily on the Snowfang gnolls. The Snowfang gnolls are not trusted by we Othmir as they survive on the skins and meat of walrus and otter but Lodizal is a threat to all coastal dwellers. Should Lodizal ever be slain I would be willing to craft a shield from his shell and adorn it with Othmir runes. I would charge ten thousand gold for the service.'

A Section of Lodizal's Shell drops from Lodizal in the Iceclad Ocean. Bring it back along with the 10,000 gold pieces (1,000 platinum also works).

Bungre Crawcrusher skillfully crafts the section of Lodizal's shell into the shape of a shield. He then attaches sturdy cured walrus hide leather straps to the inner side of the shield and inscribes intricate glowing runes on the shield's face. When he is finished, he hands you the shield and claps loudly.

Your faction standing with Othmir got better
Your faction standing with Ulthork got worse
You gain party experience!!

I turned in the shell portion + 1kpp and it said:

My faction was apprehensive.

Nilbog helped me out with another shell section.

The turn-in with 10,000 gold pieces + shell portion worked.

side note: The one faction hit from this quest changed my faction from apprehensive to indifferent.
This was after a fresh beta buff, so no other faction hits.

Suppose to be gold I believe? Been years and can't research on work phone well.

In the Alla quest write-up it says 1kpp works also. I may have made my second post while you were typing this.

All quests in P99 that require Gold in the text, require Gold as the turnin reward.

An equivalent amount of platinum does not work. That was patched some time in like 2002~? I don't know the exact date.

So yea, you'll be encumbered from your port to CS to the Othmir camp. Get a SoW and a druid port from bank. It's super classic. But get your CS Tooth first :).

Why not just use 1000 plat. instead? Any quest in the game that requires "gold" can be converted to plat. and turned in. 325pp works for the jboots quest, for example. The game doesn't distinguish between coins, just the total amount. Hope this helps...

Have an equal number of people disagreeing with that.

Same with the JBoots Alla entry. I could've sworn in the patch notes though some time they changed it so that all types of coin were equal in quest NPC's eyes.

Always remember being able to use plat instead of gold in classic, and there's a lot of comments from that era confirming it. Not sure what the evidence is to keep it the way it is here.

I'll look for what I'm thinking of when I get home.

But I could've sworn there was a patch that changed it to function like how you remember. But in classic it was gold only or Items poof.

Nilbog I believe specifically implemented this for Journeyman's Boots.

This is a very easy quest

The quest mob is easy to get to when you zone in from Skyshrine. run down to the beach and he is one of the first ottermen you come too.
