Dsetup.dll=derpy .... help?

so I am on my moms computer and trying to get the game set up on her computer. I am having a problem... the Dsetup showed up as a false positive, that's not a problem it just disappeared, so when I load P99 it says it is missing, I got the P99V33files and it would extract everything but the Dsetup, it was saying it was open on another program lol. so I went online and picked it up from like a third-party program (dll-files.com) and it logged in just fine and dandy, when I got to the Character loading screen it was telling my files out of date..... I tried to delete all the Dsetups and re-download the patch and stuff... same problem as before the not being able to extract blah blah and the spell files out of date..... um....derp? any ideas?

woah.

delete that file. you should never download dll's from websites unless you know for sure what you're getting. ever. never do that again unless you know what you're doing (i'm assuming you don't based on the nature of your question - if I'm wrong then i apologize).

Is your everquest folder in c:\program files\ or c:\program files(x86)\ ? If it is, move it to C:\everquest or something similar - doesn't matter where it is so long as it's out of program files.

After that you should be able to extract the .dll to your EQ folder without any problems. Re-download the latest changes file, and make sure your anti-virus is turned *off* when you extract the files. It may also need to remain off the first time you boot the game.

TBH I work at a computer store as the hardware specialist/engineer :P so software is not my strong suit :P, its out of the program files... its actually in the C:\Games and it wont work... should I just throw it in the c:\ directly?

interesting. should disable all anti-virus software, download the p99 files over again, extract, then run.

If that still doesn't work, would be curious to find out what software you are using to unzip the files. try 7zip:

Again make sure you delete the DLL you downloaded from internet. You can move directly to C:\ or make your own folder on C:\ or another drive. I would suspect the reason computer tells you file is in use is because the virus software has quarantined the file. Anti-virus software routinely flags these types of files. You need to disable the software or find the file and exempt it in the quarantine list of the anti-virus.:D

You probably need to install DirectX9, recent windows versions don't bring it by default if I do remember right. Just grab it from Microsoft.

wrong thread...?

Not sure how directx would affect his ability to extract a .dll, but maybe there is some weird connection between the two that I don't know about.

do you use avg? My dad had the exact same problem as you. Disable your antivirus, extract the files to p99 folder and try it then.
