a velium hound (West Wastes)

Again, not a bug but something to bring up for discussion.

When I was doing my shawl on live, the velium hound fur was maybe the most frustrating item to collect. I would run around west wastes for hours and maybe only find one hound up. I ended up having to buy all the fur for the quest, and the going price of 1k each also suggested that this was a pretty rare item.

On P99, velium hounds are everywhere. No problem finding them just by running around a bit.

So the question is, are the hounds too common on P99, or was it just a case of everyone killing them on live for the fur and respawning them as other stuff that didn't get killed as much (like mammoths)?

This may be completely irrelevant since I don't think the velium hound fur is used until the last shawl which is Luclin era, but it's just one thing I've noticed as a bit off. The beta server is getting pretty solid so I guess it's time for nit picking.

Hounds weren't particularly rare, and the hides weren't too bad.

But they sort of blended in with the surrounding and its a big zone. If you were trying to find them without track I could understand why you missed them back then.

It did take a couple days of going in tracking and killing a few and coming back later to get the 8 required for shawl.

If they are on spawn tables with rhinos, wyvs, drakes and other things, they probably got cherry picked on live for the fur and respawned as other things leading to a reduction in the amount seen if people didn't kill the other stuff.

Yes, aggro range real small.

Also using wrong model:

this is what it should be.

Also they are not running fast enough. I can outrun them with jboots:

These puppies CAN yes CAN outrun j boots. I don't know about a high level sow. I found this out while I was running for my life doing a CR. They do not see through invis like most of the lower single named dragons, but do have a knack for seeing ya soon as it drops :)

K no. People need to stop claiming the model is wrong.

That is the Luclin wolf model. The version we have is correct. For all wolves in Velious.

Hmm, you might be right. Found this conversation about it.

There have just been several bug posts about this I believe.

Same deal with Dozekar's graphic and Hybrid spell access. People just need to pause a little bit and dig deeper before posting some bugs generally is all.

the graphics was more of a side note. i mainly wanted to get the run speed thing and aggro range in.

In regards to the original post, Nuggie and I were trying to farm velium hounds last night so I would be able to test the velium hound fur recipes. Even with ranger track, it was very difficult to find any up. There were, however, tons of ice burrowers crawling around the zone. As an example, at one point standing very close to the DN zoneline, there was 1 velium hound on track and 7 ice burrowers. Based on Byrjun's experience and ours, it looks to me like they properly have all the trash mobs on the same spawn table. Granted, its a very small sample size. =)
