ShadowWulf - VNC Help

Thought maybe you might be able to give me a tip on what I'm doing wrong here. I have EQ running on my ubuntu server at home, and am trying to play it from elsewhere..

I started using the VNC server that came with Ubuntu (It does not specify what it is, just called Remote Desktop in package manager). Connecting from work using RealVNC. Basically all settings are low, doesn't appear much to change. I don't really have any problem navigating around while in it, but the game itself just does not seem to want to refresh. To get through the login screens I have to put something over the window mode (like firefox) and then minimize it and it will refresh. I can manage to get logged in, but once In that trick does not work anymore.

I attempted to set up tightvnc server on display :1 at a lower res, and connect using the tightvnc viewer, but as soon as I open EQ the whole thing crashes and I get kicked out of tightvnc. I have to assume it's because display :1 isn't set up for 3d/video card.

Using the "refresh screen" option does not seem to work.

My only tests so far are from two different xp boxes at work, and my samsung captivate running android 2.1 with the basic free VNC program.

I haven't yet tried it from home on the LAN, but I'm guessing it will have the same outcome, I can do everything else on the box, just the game itself wont refresh.

Thanks for the help...

Check my original Droid Does EQ thread for my own VNC experiences. Unfortunately a true VNC is simply not capable of handling the real time gameplay. None I have found yet will refresh at anything approaching a playable speed, even when graphics are knocked down to nothing. Even with 8-bit color mode and a super low resolution youre not going to get it playable in real time.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Attempting to install virtualgl and turbovnc right now, which supposedly will at least get me to see the game. Not necessarily looking for me to be able to group in guk, just do simple stuff.

Incase anyone is wondering I have gotten it working using visualgl.. so far not very good though. I can at least see whats going on but the framerate/commands going through is abysmal.
