mate of mine did his OT hammer this week by charming the skelly np cand handing in the jade.

which was a surprise tome, as I didnt know it could be done this way.

Made me wonder why folks faff about withthe puppet strings manner?

then it dawned on me that you need higher than indiff faction.

Only enchanters, bards, and necromancers can do the charm trick without puppet strings.
The rest of us peasants have to either work on faction or use the puppet strings.

The person doing the jade turn-ins with the foreman has to be the same person charming.

So like said above, only bards, necros and enchanters can do it without puppet strings (because this classes have the natural ability to charm).
